The Georgetown University Prisons and Justice Initiative (PJI) connects people affected by mass incarceration with opportunities to shape their own futures. In prisons, in our local communities, and on campus, PJI aims to empower currently and formerly incarcerated people as scholars, leaders, professionals, entrepreneurs, and advocates.

Grounded in Georgetown’s commitment to social justice, PJI also serves to engage the wider university community in understanding the causes and responding to the consequences of mass incarceration, one of the most pressing crises of our time.

The Bachelor of Liberal Arts Program is an expansion of the Prison Scholars Program that offers a full bachelor’s degree from Georgetown University for incarcerated students in Maryland. The program launched in 2022 at the Patuxent Institution in Jessup, Maryland and is expected to enroll 125 students within five years. Graduates of the program will earn a Bachelor of Liberal Arts, granted by the Georgetown University College of Arts & Sciences. The bachelor’s degree curriculum is modeled after Georgetown’s on-campus undergraduate programs and brings the university’s academic caliber and rich history of liberal arts in the Jesuit tradition to incarcerated students. You can help supply books for students enrolled in the Summer 2024 semester by donating below. Any amount is welcome, and we're so grateful for your support of this program! The drive will run through April 22.
